A Day Can Be So Beautiful When Kindness Touches It ❤️

Tampines is often seen as a place that is far away, and many people have the impression that there are fewer needy families in the East. It is precisely because of this that Keeping Hope Alive wanted to step into Tampines and discover the needs hidden within its rental flats.

On 26th July, we made our way to Tampines. Some first-time volunteers asked if we could change the location to somewhere nearer to town. Some students even decided not to join after hearing the outreach would be held in Tampines. But our hearts remained focused on one mission — to search for and reach out to families who may need support.

We arrived at Tampines Street 86 at 8am on a bright and sunny morning. The first person to welcome us was our rice donor Mr Patrick, who delivered 500 packets of rice. Soon after, a lorry arrived carrying furniture and electrical appliances — cupboards, chairs, lamps, fans, irons and many other household items. The driver told us, "It was pouring heavily throughout my journey, but the moment I drove into your meeting place, the rain suddenly stopped."

We took it as a casual remark at the time. But immediately after everything was safely unloaded, strong winds began to blow, the sky turned dark, and heavy rain came pouring down. Even those standing under the void deck were getting wet. In our hearts, we quietly thanked 老天爷 for the blessing. We were also grateful to donor Michelle, who had carefully wrapped every piece of furniture — her thoughtful preparation protected everything from the rain.

Volunteer Steven brought along a trolley filled with baby clothes and toys. And there we went — floor by floor, door by door, combing through two blocks of rental flats.

Along the way, we met many elderly residents in wheelchairs. One elderly man asked our volunteers to help tidy his home, and they stayed back to do just that. Through this encounter, our team was reminded of what it truly means to give without expecting anything in return, and to accept every outcome with an open heart.

A special thank you to a donor who came personally for the first time, bringing 20 Seahorse pillows and lending her hands to cleaning an elderly resident's home. Some experiences are best understood by doing, and this one will stay with her for a long time. 🌟

Distance should never determine who deserves to be seen.
